Whew · Safety

Know when not to wait

Whew can stop or restrict a request when safety rules apply. It is not an emergency service and does not diagnose hazards.

If there is immediate danger

Call 911. If you smell gas, leave immediately, then call the ATCO Gas emergency line at 1-800-511-3447 or 911 once you are outside. For sparking or exposed live wiring, keep clear and contact a licensed electrician or emergency services.

What Whew does

Intake uses deterministic safety rules and may stop, restrict, or send a request to manual review. It gives safe, non-diagnostic guidance rather than deciding whether a home is safe.

What Whew does not do

Whew is not an emergency service and does not provide a trade, legal, medical, or safety diagnosis. Do not use the intake to delay contacting an appropriate emergency service.

Separate credential checks

Where a category rule requires them, Whew checks the applicable records separately. A provider is not represented as having every credential, and the checks are not collapsed into one badge.

  • Provincial trade certification
  • Municipal licence and permit authority
  • WCB status or documented coverage position
  • Commercial liability insurance

When a request cannot proceed

Some work cannot proceed until its scope, safety and provider requirements are resolved. Follow the explanation shown for your request. A stopped request is not a diagnosis or a recommendation of a particular provider.
